History of Prague: Discover Its Hidden Secrets

“I see a great city whose glory will touch the stars,” said Princess Libuše, according to Old Czech Legends by Alois Jirásek. When did Prague begin? Right then—at least according to the legend passed down through generations. But why Prague? Its name is said to come from the word “práh” (threshold), which was carved by an unknown man at Libuše’s request. According to legend, Libuše was a wise princess from the Přemyslid dynasty, daughter of Krok, and sister to Kazi and Teta. Her gift of prophecy allowed her to see the city that would rise in the middle of the Czech basin.

You can now experience this magical moment in a completely new way—with your own eyes, ears, and even skin. At the modern immersive museum Back in Time, you’ll find yourself standing atop Vyšehrad, right next to Libuše herself, witnessing the prophecy that gave birth to the heart of the Czech lands.

But Libuše isn’t the only legendary figure who helped shape the history of Prague. Another story tells of Horymír, who resisted the reckless mining of silver. For his defiance, he was sentenced to death. But before his execution, he was granted one final wish—to ride his loyal horse Šemík. Together, they leapt from the cliffs of Vyšehrad to freedom. This tale of bravery and loyalty also comes to life at Back in Time as a powerful visual and emotional experience that pulls you straight into the heart of the story.
